Project Background

The imperative to enhance Bravo's Health Data Page became evident as our clients, discerning users who valued the platform, voiced their concerns regarding its limitations. They astutely pinpointed several key issues that required attention:

  • PDF Formatting Complexity: Users found the process of printing out a webpage to be perplexing due to the absence of a user-friendly PDF formatting option. This hurdle hindered their ability to present their health data accurately and effectively to their healthcare providers.

  • Limited Filtering Capabilities: Both users and clients expressed frustration with the restricted capacity to filter and refine the information they sought. This constraint impeded their ability to access the specific health insights they required, undermining the overall user experience.

  • Inadequate Information: Feedback revealed that the data provided on the Health Data Page was notably limited. Users desired a more comprehensive and informative snapshot of their health status, which was crucial for informed decision-making and holistic well-being.

Recognizing these challenges, Bravo embarked on a mission to revamp the Health Data Page, addressing these issues head-on to provide a more intuitive, versatile, and informative platform for our valued users and clients.

Objective

With these challenges in mind, our UX team embarked on a journey of exploration, asking a pivotal question: "What if we could not only address these limitations but also build upon them to craft an intuitive product that precisely met the needs articulated by our clients?"

Leveraging the valuable insights shared by our clients as a foundational starting point, we delved into a process of ideation. Our aim was to brainstorm creative solutions that would elegantly resolve these concerns while elevating the user experience to new heights. We maintained an ongoing dialogue with the Product and Development teams, engaging in collaborative sessions to share our progress and gather feedback. This iterative approach allowed us to continually refine our solutions, ensuring they not only met but exceeded expectations, all within the constraints and capabilities of our platform.

Research

Stepping into this project, we embarked on a journey of inquiry, seeking answers to a range of crucial questions, including:

  • What Aspects of Health Data Matter Most to Users? We delved into understanding what users truly desired to see in their health data, pinpointing the key insights that held the greatest relevance.

  • How Can We Simplify Data Presentation? We pondered strategies for streamlining the presentation of health information, ensuring that it was insightful yet not overwhelming to users.

  • Streamlining Data Sharing: We focused on enhancing the ease of sharing health data with healthcare providers, seeking ways to simplify and expedite this crucial process.

  • Top User Information Priorities: We aimed to ascertain the specific health information that users were most eager to access and comprehend.

Armed with these insights, the Senior UX Designer and I embarked on a collaborative journey, working in tandem to craft innovative solutions. Our journey began with low-fidelity designs, which served as our initial creative canvases. We then transitioned seamlessly to high-fidelity designs, translating our concepts into polished and user-friendly interfaces.

Throughout this process, we engaged in an iterative design approach, presenting our evolving solutions to stakeholders and clients for their valuable feedback. This iterative cycle of presentation and feedback response allowed us to fine-tune our designs continuously, ensuring that they not only met but exceeded the expectations of our users and clients alike.

Design

To maintain confidentiality, I've provided a blurred representation of the updates below:

As evident in the blurred image above, a significant adjustment has been made to the layout. Filters and input text boxes, which were previously located at the top of the page, have been strategically relocated to the left-hand side. This modification serves a dual purpose: it allows us to stack buttons vertically, offering room for future additions, while also ensuring that users can view the data displayed on the page without the interference of overlapping dropdown menus. Moreover, when expanded, these left-aligned buttons and filters seamlessly coexist without obstructing access to other vital information, guaranteeing a clutter-free and user-centric interface.

Additionally, we have introduced a valuable feature (visible only in the blurred "Download" button for confidentiality reasons). Users can now conveniently download and print their health data, facilitating easy presentation to healthcare providers. This addition empowers users with greater control over their health information, making it more accessible and actionable in their healthcare journey.

Conclusion

The next phase of our journey involved conducting Usability Testing, during which participants were assigned a series of tasks to gauge the effectiveness and intuitiveness of the new design. These tasks included:

1. Select the filter option "BMI."

2. State the data presented on X/XX/XX date.

3. Download the selected data and open the resulting PDF.

These tasks were instrumental in providing valuable insights into the user experience, helping us assess how intuitively our participants interacted with the system. Overall, the feedback we received was remarkably positive, highlighting the effectiveness of our design enhancements. Some noteworthy quotes from our participants included:

"This is much easier to use."

"I like being able to filter the information."

"This will make it easier for me to show my doctor."

While one user encountered a minor challenge in locating the "Download" button, it was interesting to note that this issue was not prominently highlighted in our Affinity Map. Consequently, we decided to maintain the current design, confident in its overall effectiveness and user-friendliness.

This project was indeed a source of immense excitement for me. It exemplified the art of taking something seemingly simple and transforming it into a more refined and straightforward solution. I have always relished challenging projects like this, and this particular undertaking stands out as one of my personal favorites, a testament to the power of thoughtful design and user-focused enhancements.
